Tampa Hat

I have a friend who lives in Tampa for college, and the weather has been a bit chilly for Florida, so she asked for a hat and scarf. This is the hat.

Materials
  • 1 skein (about 250 yards) of worsted weight wool (CYCA 4)
  • Size US 5 (3.75mm) double pointed needles
  • Size US 7 (4.00 mm) double pointed needles
  • Darning/yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers, if desired

Tension
7 stitches x 6 rows per inch in stocking stitch in the round.

Glossary / Abbreviations
CO – Cast On
k – knit
p – purl
m1 – make one (increase)
*..* - repeat between the * for the number of times specified
tog – together (decrease)
BO – Bind off

Decrease Formula
*K3tog, k(n-1), yo* around, where n equals the number of stitches used in the last round. Example sequence:

*K3tog, k13, yo*
*K3tog, k12,  yo*
*K3tog, k11, yo*

Continue in this way until 18 stitches remain.

The pattern:

CO 110 stitches with smaller needles. Work 1x1 rib for 14 rows or about 1½  inches.

Using the larger needles, work *k3, m1* around for one round, ending with 150 stitches.

Work *K2tog, k13, yo* for 24 rounds or about 4 inches from the brim. At this point, begin decrease formula.

Knit 1 round; k2tog for one round, then cut thread and draw through all remaining loops. Finish by weaving in all ends, washing, blocking, etc.

Enjoy!
